We thought LinkedIn would have done this sooner. But it’s better late than never!
LinkedIn, a business-oriented social networking site, has launched the “Apply” button for jobs. Like how “Like” works on Facebook, people could apply for jobs with just a click. It is said that “Netflix, Tripit and Photobucket will be some of the first companies to feature the button on their websites.” Whether other companies will follow is debatable.
Some of the concerns (but not really concerns) are the fact that people will abuse the system and apply to all the jobs they can get their hands on. Another concern is the fact that LinkedIn currently only allow one resume per profile, which means there will be, lack of tailoring; people will not be able to emphasize their strengths to their respective companies and their requirements. Other concerns list out the fact that people cannot upload their cover letters when they are applying.
Still, in my opinion, this is a right step forward for LinkedIn. This move will most likely increase the number of LinkedIn users. It will be interesting to see how this turns out and whether or not if other companies will use this “Apply with LinkedIn” button.
