Good news for all the students out there! Amazon is now renting out text books through the Kindle Store.
As a student, I always complained about how much the textbooks costs and every time I sell it back to the bookstore, they will only buy it back at the fraction of the price, or even worse, they are changing their book from 25th edition to 26th edition, where the only difference is the page numbers.
Another complaint of mine was the fact that the bookstore will always gain a profit through students. They sell a book for 100 dollars, buy back for 10 and sell it again for another 100! Come on now; college students are poor. Apparently, the “National Association of College Stores estimate that U.S. college stores posted $10.25 billion in sales in the 2009-2010 fiscal year with each student spending $745 on average.” That’s a lot of money!
But with the rental system that Amazon is offering, students can save up to 80% by renting books for a period of 30 to 360 days. I know what I am going to do next year with my books.
